Bible Passage: Genesis 22: 4-12
Text: ‘ …do not do anything to him. Now I know … because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son’(Genesis 22:12 NLT)
“Sacrifice your son, your only son”. How hard it must have been for Abraham to hold on to the promise of God prophesied to him many years gone past. How hard it must have been to be ridiculed by other land owners who knew he had no heir. It must have been a tough struggle. Finally, the heir arrived and there was much jubilation and celebration and first time experience as a father, only to receive the instruction to sacrifice that same one and only child that was promised years ago.
The heaviness that would have weighed on Abraham’s mind on how he was going to carry out this great and difficult feat. The fear of telling Sarah his wife when he eventually sacrificed Isaac. But he threw aside the worries and went ahead with God’s instruction. Beloved, are you willing to let go of something dear to your heart, something that you value so much when God demands it of you? Will you let worry overtake you or will you surrender like Abraham did. God is too faithful not to recompense you in manifold ways. Sacrifice is the ecstasy of giving the best we have to the one we love the most.
Help me Lord to be focused and grant me grace to sacrifice truly.
May I not place thought on self before carrying out your plan for my life.
O Lord, may my life not be lived on the basis of fear in Jesus name.
Behind the pain of sacrifice lies the sweet joy of deliverance. He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.
